Underarm Laser Hair Removal Experience

Last week, I completed my second underarm laser hair removal session. For those who weren’t aware, I finally decided to get laser hair removal back in December.

I’ve always wanted to get laser hair removal because the idea of no longer shaving sounds wonderful to me… because seriously, who likes to shave constantly?

Since moving to Melbourne and arriving just in time for summer, I was getting annoyed with shaving everyday. I kid you not, it’s literally everyday. Plus, Dan bought a pack of 2-blade razors that are shite and I want to get through that 12 pack before buying a new razor so the shaving isn’t great either – it’ll leave like a shadow.

Ladies – be sure your man knows how to shop for razors before sending them out to the store.

However, I’m a wimp and put it off since forever. I stuck to shaving and plucking because I thought laser hair removal is going to hurt like a biotch… I mean, c’mon… it’s a laser beam! But that being said, I did get LASIK done, and been waxing soooo how painful can it really be????

For those in Melbourne, I booked a consultation at ClearSkinCare Clinic (South Yarra). It was meant to be a consultation but I also told myself that if it comes down to my first session as well, I’ll do it right then and there because I don’t want to come down again after a few days. Plus, what’s there to consultant about getting some armpit hairs removed?

Initial thoughts? It’s fast. It literally took less than 5 minutes to do both armpits (which sort of makes me annoyed that I gotta travel all the way to the clinic for a 5 minutes appointment). I don’t even think it’s 30 seconds per side!

I instantly was able to smell a faint scent of something burning – my hairs being burned? It’s a bit off putting but it goes away once she’s done lasering you.

The cool air sensation really helps. I actually can’t imagine doing it without that cool air blowing on your areas.

The actual lasering and pain? It sort of stung, not going to lie. I suppose all those who say it’s like having a rubber band snap at your skin consistently for 30 seconds is correct… At first, it didn’t hurt but after about 3 seconds, you start to feel the sting.

But, it’s not unbearable. I would have to say that I enjoy getting my Brazilian waxes more than getting lasered. I might pop a painkiller the next time I go… The pain is brief – really brief. It stings for a few seconds but once the whole ordeal is over, the discomfort fades. I would call it more of a discomfort than pain and would rate it a 4/10.

If you’ve gotten waxed, tattooed, or pierced, I think you can survive an underarm laser treatment. I’m not sure how well I would do for bigger areas but I’d give it a shot and keep you guys updated if I ever do a Brazilian or full leg.

The price? The clinic had a big sale and underarm treatments were only $9 per session which is how they caught my attention in the first place, lol.

But, it’s $9 per session if you buy in a package of 10. So, I ended up paying $90 but they make you prepay instead of like signing a contract or something. I’ve been told it’s a very common practice in this industry, and if not, I think all of them do it this way?

I think $90 is okay for ten sessions. I probably wouldn’t buy it if the clinic didn’t have a sale, to be honest. Laser can be pretty expensive.

They told me that if I don’t need all ten treatments, I can put the balance towards another laser treatment, but unfortunately, no refunds.

The results? Oh my gosh, am I ever glad to do it! After the first session, I barely had any armpit hairs left. I had a few strands that the laser didn’t get the first time so I’m excited to see how the second and third treatment plays out.

But seriously, after the first session, I shave only once a week. So, with the second session done, I’m thinking I don’t need to shave at all soon.

It’s incredible to see such a big difference after a few sessions. I’m starting to regret prepaying for ten because I honestly don’t believe I need all ten sessions to get results. My old waxing clinic started doing “pay as you go” for laser hair removal and she told me it’s actually cheaper and better in the end because every candidate is different, and clinics do not refund you if you don’t use it all.

For example, even if I paid more than $9 per pay as you go session, it still comes out cheaper than prepaying for everything if I only require 3-4 sessions for my underarms to see permanent results.

That being said, that’s why I opted out not to get my Brazilian until I get back home. I think I’m going to ask if I can use the remaining sessions on my happy trail instead since that’s something I’m self-conscious about too.

But boy do I love hopping out of the shower and not have to worry about shaving my armpits anymore. I would say, you’re pretty much paying for the convenience and you need to ask yourself “do I dislike shaving enough to drop $90?” Because I do.

So, for those who have done Brazilian or full leg laser hair removal, please let me know how it went for you!

  1. Dear Lord, you do Brazilian wax! I can only imagine the pain.
I once bought an epilator and used it down there. Damn.

Laser sound a bit more appealing to me. I don’t have many problems with my arm pits, but legs and that area down there grows like crazy!
Maybe I should do the investment one day. Glad you wrote a review about it!

    • Oh my God, I purchased an epilator for my legs and only used it like 3 times before I chucked it away because it was so painful. I can’t even imagine using an epilator down there!

Ugh, I feel ya. After the pits, I’d love to look into investing some treatments on the legs and down there area as well.

  2. Lol oh hell no! 2 blade razors are never okay! Luckily my bf knows my razor brand and type πŸ˜‚

That’s so scary that you smelled a burning scent but I guess that makes sense! For some reason I thought laser hair removal would be painless. I honestly think the price you paid is great. I expected pricier! If you don’t end up needing all sessions, at least you can get more hair removed somewhere else. πŸ˜‰

    • Hahahha, after I opened the pack and checked it out, I had to tell my bf what to look for next time but I don’t trust him enough to remember and make the same mistake again πŸ˜‚

Me too! I thought they’re just burning the hairs, can’t be too bad but I was on reddit and a lot of girls say it hurts more than waxing for them 😩
